Nikki Whiston, owner of Nikki Whiston Inks,is a designer and illustrator based in South Yorkshire. Her shop features beautiful, handcrafted items for every celebration from weddings to a new baby.

Why did you set up your Etsy shop?

I set up my Etsy shop a couple of months after I got married as I had spent so many months planning all my own wedding decor and stationary I didn’t know what to do with myself when it was all over!  I love to blog my lettering too but my shop has given me an outlet to be creative with a purpose.  Theres nothing better than receiving a lovely comment or review from customers, its so nice to know your product made them smile.

What process do you go through when creating a design?

I always get excited when I receive an order as its an excuse to get out my tin of pens and get drawing! Custom orders are my favorite as its nice to create something special and unique for that person.  I always draw my lettering out by hand to keep it looking organic and once I’m happy with it I scan it and then work on formatting the design.  Hand cutting out the fiddly tip on shapes are always a challenge too when mocking it up!

What inspires you?

I’m mainly inspired by beautiful hand lettering. Theres something about it that is so magical to me, it just draws you in with its beautiful flowing lines.  When I see a piece like this I just have to get out the pens and create something, its so inspiring. A perfect example of this is artist Glen Weisgerber, I could watch the videos of him lettering all day!

Nikki is a perfect example of how Etsy cultivates creative and passionate local people to make unique and fantastic items. Have a look at her beautiful prints at www.etsy.com/shop/NikkiWhistonInks
