We meet Benessamy
Tell us a bit about what you do
'At Benessamy we have created a menu of wedding planning services, from full wedding planning (design, styling, planning and management) to partial planning (our Rescue Service!) , fun wedding planning parties and wedding day management. Clients can have as much or as little help as they need. We can even just be on hand to help point them in the right direction or to assist them with some of their wedmin tasks. We also have a wedding and event planning blog Benessamy Weddings & Events where we publish news, events and planning advice, tips and experiences as well as event design and styling inspiration. We regularly invite guest bloggers to submit articles and also showcase quality suppliers and venues.'
Why should wedding couples hire a wedding planner?
'Wedding planners are no longer an extravagance or a luxury. We provide great support for clients who have busy lifestyles, demanding jobs or who are planning at a distance.'
'A good wedding planner can save you time, money and can help to minimise the stress of wedding planning. We have great contacts and can help our clients to save money or make their money go further by selecting the right suppliers to suit their wedding style.'
'Many of our clients have busy lives, demanding careers and the idea of spending every spare moment visiting endless suppliers and meeting potential suppliers may not be appealing or at all practical (especially if they live or work abroad or away from the area in which they wish to get married). Some find negotiating difficult or time consuming. We can lead the venue and supplier discussions on their behalf leaving them to enjoy their engagement and the more enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding. If they don't know where to start with their wedding plans the complimentary consultation we offer can help them to identify their priorities and must haves for their big day.'
'On the day of the wedding, our clients effectively have a Wedding Day PA on hand to assist them with whatever they need, making everything they’ve spent so long planning come to life and go incredibly smoothly on the day, without a worry from them. But it’s also about all the little things and hassles that inevitably come up that no bride or groom should be sorting out themselves!'
What does a normal day involve for you?
'People think that being a wedding planner is a glamorous job filled with menu, wine and cake tastings (OK – I do get to experience these sometimes!). However, it’s mostly about lots of wedding admin (or Wedmin) for our clients. Contacting venues and suppliers, creating schedules, checking and finalising details.'
'I have the pleasure of working with lots of fabulous and creative supplier colleagues in the wedding industry and I work hard to build and develop great contacts so that this will in turn benefit my clients. This includes the planning and coordination of styled photoshoots and networking events which are a great way to develop new working relationships and to explore new wedding styles and trends.'
What makes Benessamy different to other wedding planners?
'We offer our clients an independent, professional service and do not accept commission from suppliers. Any discounts are always passed on to our clients which often means a saving for them and ensures that we provide advice, support and recommendations which are appropriate to our clients’ tastes, priorities and budget.'
What wedding trends will be popular over the next 12 months?
'I’ve certainly seen a return of the wedding weekend! Many of our clients have guests who are travelling a fair distance for their wedding so they want to make the most of the time they have to spend with them. I have helped them with planning and arrangements for rehearsal dinners for the night before and post wedding day brunch or lunch.'
'Couples continue to shy away from all inclusive packages and want their wedding to be personalised and more bespoke with details that reflect their style and interests and to include elements that tell their story. This creative bespoke side of wedding planning is what I enjoy the most – that and my fascination with list making and schedules!'
Why do you love your job?
'For so many reasons but mostly because It’s an absolute privilege to be part of my clients’ very special day. I particularly enjoy problem solving for clients, whether that be helping them to find that elusive ‘perfect’ venue or finding interesting ways to wow their guests!'
'I also enjoy taking the drawings, photos, scrapbooks, pin boards, magazine cuttings, or whatever format our clients have used to imagine the look and feel of their dream day, and shaping those ideas to deliver beyond their expectations.'
