A Day In The Life Of An ASTW Editor

A Day In The Life Of An ASTW Editor

Happy Wednesday. So recently I was asked the question, 'What do I do at And so to Wed?'. My response was to laugh and then think. I didn't actually know where to start answering the question as I feel like And so to Wed is my whole life. I never stop thinking about weddings, what brides want, keeping our small businesses happy, social media and so on. But trying to condense this down into a socially acceptable response I said, 'Well, I mainly just look at pretty things all day!', which actually isn't far from the truth! But, just so you don't think I while away the hours starring at beautiful photography wearing tulle and a tiara whilst eating wedding cake I thought I'd give you a bit of an insight into a day in the life of an And so to Wed Editor.

My day starts off much the same as most others, with a cup of tea. As the kettle boils I check the social media for that night. Whilst we're sleeping America is up, tweeting and posting and we have quite a few American brides who follow us for some British inspiration. After some breakfast and a snuggle with my boy I go into my office, open my laptop and my working day really begins. I first work through my emails, responding to brides, potential suppliers, any queries from the girls in the office, checking our newsletter, dealing with submissions and any other loveliness that appears in my inbox. I then go over to the website and begin scheduling blog posts. I love this bit. This is the bit where I do just play around with prettiness! Whether it be real weddings, tips for brides, photo shoots or profiles on our suppliers, I love everything about the content we produce. Mainly because it is all about people. The real weddings give such a beautiful insight into our brides and grooms and I feel so privileged that they have chosen to share such a special day with us. The photo shoots and supplier profiles have a real feel good factor, as we're supporting the little lady, the small business who may not be noticed in the vastness of google and other search engines, but we give them a platform where they can shout about what they do. The whole reason for And so to Wed is to let brides know about these special suppliers who can create such lovely wedding uniqueness. Spreading the word every day makes me immensely happy.

At lunch time I sit and eat (usually something my fabulous husband has made me) whilst checking in on social media again. It's nice to be able to engage with brides and small businesses as it gives me a real insight into what they want, what's important to them, what's the latest big thing and so on. My afternoon is largely the same as my morning, emails, editing, tea and sometimes cake!

As well as my office days, I often go out to meet wedding suppliers and the other lovely people, which usually involves a glass of something fizzy! I usually have a few days a month where I am on location on a photo shoot or doing research for the magazine. These days are great as I get to meet fantastic people and see so much wonderful work in the world of weddings. Not to mention there's nothing like a day on set to make a girl feel like she's living the dream!

So, whilst my day's do involve a lot of tulle and sometimes a tiara, sadly it's not me wearing them (most of the time!). I do however have one of the best jobs ever and I absolutely love you all for making it possible.
