An Isle of Man Inspiration Shoot
We’re starting the week with some bridal inspiration to get us motivated on a Monday morning. This Isle of Man styled shoot comes from the very lovely Lucy Rotchell. It’s boho, it’s real and it gives an insight to an enchanted island not that far away.
Lucy is a wedding planner and stylist based in Yorkshire but specialising in weddings on a magical Island which, to be honest, isn’t all that well known; the Isle of Man. With her planning skills and eye for the perfect wedding style, she is the one to catapult us across the sea to appreciate all that this place has to offer.
The Isle of Man is a charming, quaint island in the Irish Sea. It’s a perfect short distance destination wedding location with rustic charm adding to your indie or boho wedding. A lighthouse, a castle and a woodland backdrop tick all the boxes for inspiration. Lucy tells us more about her love for the Island and her inspiration behind the shoot.
The shoot was based on my love of all things boho and of wanting to highlight the beautiful island I have come to know and love over the past 13 years.
Hand picked wild flowers and a gorgeous bridal two piece really brought the boho style to life and on the day, despite a forecast of continuous rain, the weather could not have been kinder and certainly added to the atmosphere clearly evident from the stunning images.
Ahead of the shoot I worked with the lovely Robyn of Robyn Ackron Photography to choose the perfect locations. We opted for Fort Island, Castle Rushen & Archallagen Plantation; all equally as beautiful but each showcasing the island and its beauty in very different ways.
As an ‘off island’ wedding planner and as someone who, I will admit, before I met my husband and was introduced to the Isle of Man knew absolutely nothing about it, let alone how picturesque and breathtaking it can be, I really hope that this shoot not only encourages people to visit but also shows any future brides and grooms out there that ‘destination’ doesn’t have to mean hours of travel or a deserted Caribbean beach to be picture perfect.
The handpicked wildflowers from The Flower Studio are a lovely addition to the shoot with the organic, wild shapes mirroring the wildness of the Isle of Man landscape. The deep tones against the pastel shades are striking and elegant. The colours are captured beautifully by Robyn Ackron against the atmospheric, gritty scenery. The intricate flower crown instantly adds that boho twist with a wild garden feel.
Hair and makeup by Erica Stephenson also embraced the wild boho vibes with loose curls in Sarah’s hair adding a dreamy, out of the woods feel. The makeup, simple with striking eyes, an absolute winning combination that suits the relaxed feel for the shoot. Wild and free.
Adopting the two piece wedding dress trend is a definite yeah! One that we absolutely adore and perfect for a bride looking to create an individual style. The flowing blush skirt from Belles and Bows shows just this.
Robyn Ackron has found frames, angles and textures that make these photos interesting and breathtaking with injections of genuine smiles and personality. Robyn obviously knows this island like the back of her hand and that’s priceless when choosing a wedding photographer for a destination wedding.
The wedding suppliers on the Isle of Man coming together on this shoot organised by Lucy really shows wedding team work at its very best. For a bride and groom looking for suppliers to plan and style up a storm on the Isle of Man for their unique destination wedding, look no further. Yes, it’s possible to have your wedding, your way, on an island in the middle of the sea.
