The True Meaning of a Bespoke Indie Wedding
This mid-week insight into indie wedding styling comes from Katie who owns the gorgeous vintage styling company - The Vintage House That Could. Katie magically turns anything into beauty, she takes kitsch antique ornaments and styles them into something fresh, original -making them an object of interest and wonder. I don't how she does it! Her bespoke approach to wedding styling for couples reflects everything a modern day indie wedding couple are looking for - a pretty wedding with those personalised details to make your day truly bespoke to you.
In her own words, here’s what 'Bespoke' really means to Katie. It’s her ethos and concept throughout her work which results in your wedding day unique to you and like no one else's.
BESPOKE – What does it really mean?
“Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Taken” Words I try and live by as hard as it may be, especially in a world where we are bombarded by inspiration and choice.
When I started the business I was very definite about one thing, I wanted every wedding to be as unique as the couples I work with. I didn’t want to offer a ‘one size fits all’ package, where is the fun in that? One of the most exciting parts of any wedding for me is the prospect of being creative, getting those juices flowing and designing a scheme that is completely new. I am aware that some people prefer to opt for the tried and tested schemes, that some people struggle to visualize what a venue will look like unless it has been done before. They would rather pick from a list or a brochure and I absolutely get that.
A wedding for me though is about more than decoration, it’s the accumulation of what makes you, you. I want guests to walk away and say, “It was so them” Whilst generic weddings are also beautiful I don’t feel that they tell a story and after all a wedding is one of the best stories there is!!!
It’s very easy to be swayed by good old Pinterest and see what other couples have had and think YES! I want that. That is what I am here for, to help you use those inspirations but then create something new, something WOW! Every wedding that I create has to have bespoke elements, whether that’s personalized signage, illustrated table names, table runners made from vintage fabric, the list goes on. I know I don’t make my job easy but it’s where I get my kicks! Bespoke for me isn’t just about individual elements though, its about the feeling that is created when people walk into the room. Does the space feel like it belongs to the couple or could it be anyone’s wedding? There are many elements that can be designed from scratch but it’s important to remember that the venue plays a big part in the overall design. Most couples chose their venue because of its aesthetics and depending on the style not everything can work. However, nothing is impossible!!
Bespoke – Items are designed or made to fit the requirements of an individual customer.
How lovely that things are made especially for you, it’s a great feeling knowing that no one out there will have exactly the same. If this is what you want then find someone that can help you get there. It might be me it might not, I akin styling to dating, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and trust me there is someone for everyone!!
What I love most about Katie and Vintage House That Could is that her personality and passion for what she does is totally reflected in her work and lifestyle.
