How To Style Your Christmas Table
It’s getting to that point of year where no matter who you ask, everyone is becoming hard-pressed to deny it’s Christmas time. That means everything exciting: even more fairy lights than usual, Christmas markets, emotional TV, sparkly snow, knitwear, presents…the list goes on (as does my gift list). But one of the pivotal parts for many is the Christmas dinner, when your entire family tries to fit around three haphazard tables that don’t even accommodate half of you. It’s finally time to eat your body weight in pigs in blankets, and everything somehow reaches a chaotic but wonderful level of happiness.
With the table being such a crucial part of the day, we’ve teamed up with the super talented elves at Extra Special Touch to bring you some beautiful styling tips to give you the most picture-perfect Christmas ever. They specialise in stunning personalised embroidered goods, made from natural fabrics and inspired by the beauty of vintage. On top of breath-taking handkerchiefs, wedding décor and garters, Extra Special Touch offers embroidered napkins, personalisable with lettering, monograms, or a completely individual design. Whilst they complete a wedding breakfast table, and make brilliant favours for guests to take away, we think they’re also the perfect addition to the Christmas day table.
Heidi, the talented lady behind the brand, has shared with us her favourite colour ways and styles this December. They almost look too pretty to use – make sure you keep them a safe distance from the gravy!
We adore this monogrammed design, complete with a super cute heart in the ampersand! This is perfect if it’s your first Christmas as a couple, or if it’s your first time hosting the big Christmas meal in your home. Keep place settings simple, and let the success of you speak for itself (…and the stuffing. Don’t mess that one up either.)
Alternatively, go for this beautiful monogram design. Tie napkins with a satin ribbon in keeping with a lush gold colour scheme. Treat yourself to some gorgeous cotton napkins for your 2nd anniversary, or linen for your 4th. Scatter some table gems on the table and rest in the knowledge you’ve got the prettiest Christmas table in all of the land.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – go for the ultimate festive colour of red. We love the bold and ornate monogram on this napkin, with its regal air. Compliment it by arranging each place setting’s cutlery and tying them up with a ribbon bow – we think it looks like the perfect snowflake-y adornment to the table!
We love this entire table scape! The gorgeous forest green is a beautiful, striking colour and a brilliant way of tying in some natural themes to your table. Use some long boughs of foliage along the table, or alternatively, use conkers as an alternative form of confetti. We also love these gingerbread cookie decorations – a perfect Christmas Eve activity!
Sticking with red, this setting is screaming Christmas at us with absolute glee. Match your monogram thread with your holly and Father Christmas’ suit but, most importantly, with your wine! We absolutely love the red cellophane on this toffee apple, harking back to vintage sweet shops from the same kind of era that Heidi is most inspired by and incorporates into all of her products. Use candles along the table for some soft and wonderful adornment – but just remember they’re there when you’re reaching for another sprout.
Go for a rustic theme with a more understated but by no means underwhelming embroidery style. Get a napkin for each table guest with a boho theme, like this gorgeous dark knot design. We also love this focus on textures, with acorns and wildflowers looking stunning next to the all-important Christmas cheeseboard!
As part of our Christmas Advent, you can get Free P&P on orders over £20 at the Extra Special Touch Etsy shop, from the 5th to the 10th December, using the code “ASTWXMAS”. Happy Christmas indeed!
