Great Gatsby Style Betty's Bridal Shoot

Great Gatsby Style Betty's Bridal Shoot

Betty's Tea Room Bridal

“You are the loveliest, tenderest and most beautiful person I have ever known— and even that is an understatement.” Get ready for a lovely, tender and most beautiful styled wedding shoot!

Let’s not lie, we’ve all been beguiled and enchanted by F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wondrous words and even more wonderful worlds more than once – which is why we’re absolutely thrilled to bring you this gorgeous Great Gatsby inspired wedding shoot from an amazing team of suppliers today! Whether you’re here out of love or out of tender curiosity, this stunning art deco inspired shoot is sure to get the cogs whirring in that big ol’ brain of yours to see how you can evoke the grandeur and heady beauty of Gatsby’s parties in your big day (whether intimate or not). A word of warning, though: we 100% recommend you use this literary lavishness to influence everything from your décor to your dress to your drink – but don’t use it to influence your relationship. (And if you don’t know why – read the book, or take a look at the film!)

We love this shoot so much because, in true Gatsby style, it’s perfect for the guides, the pathfinders, and the original settlers. There are moments of the drama, the dark, moody romance, and the performance of the 1920s era, all set in the historic and legendary Betty’s Tea Rooms in York. They’re a perfect blend of old style glamour and modern celebration – so if you feel like you belong to another generation, you can finally settle.

The tone for the shoot was immediately set by the gorgeous, rich features of the art-deco inspired invitations, with tile print patterns and accents of gold. The (rather lovely) Loveli provided menu cards for the afternoon tea, invites promising ‘love and laughter’, RSVP cards and drinks tags, all in the most gorgeous shade of claret, and bound with sumptuous golden thread. They perfectly complimented the décor: golden cutlery and engraved martini glasses sat next to golden tumblers filled with pink-toned flowers and moody candlelight. The flowers, created by Claire Slater, further secured the feelings of lavish opulence, with a bouquet-come-centrepiece bursting with full-headed blooms, foliage, and trailing elements too, all set in a tall, fluted vase.

Oh, and in the gramophone. A little party never killed nobody and a little prop scene-setting never hurt them either: we adore this ornate number from York Wedding Hire Company. Set next to a Loveli Print, a drinks tray complete with a beautifully designed bottle of gin, and the incredible Where The Ribbon Ends cake, it makes the perfect focal point. We love the lavish elements of this cake: by using only accents of white, as opposed to it being the base colour, the cake really stands out and shows off the beautiful detailing.

But now: our darling girls, the stars of the show. These Blossom & Belle dresses are absolutely to die for, sumptuously different and so delicately finished. The draped halterneck number with beaded belt and gorgeous low back detail is a perfect nod to old Hollywood glamour, whilst the off-the-shoulder design has a silky train that creates the perfect silhouette. The stunning make up and hair is the handiwork of über talented Alison Martin, and the vintage-inspired hair pieces and jewellery from Elisoberry was the icing on the art deco cake. To hide the cocktail-induced hiccups and remove the traces of stolen kisses (or maybe to hold them somewhere tight forevermore), Extra Special Touch provided luxury personalised embroidered handkerchiefs.

Betty’s was the perfect setting for this inspired shoot – an institution of dazzling antiquity in itself that would be able to tell so many stories from within its walls. In the modern day, the façade of the shop and the cobbled stones of beloved York provide the most amazing backdrop for photos of a carefree newlywed couple – just look at those giggling faces against that gorgeous dark stone!

We’re so grateful to Becki at All You Need Is Love Photography for capturing these wonderful shots. We feel like we’re really there, hearing the same stories and laughing at all the same jokes, living their moments. And the lighting and framing of the window shot makes me want to cry!
