Welcome to Iceland
Inspired would be an understatement for this Montreal couple who have started a personal and cooperate destination events company located in what they have coined “The Oasis Of The North”. But what good is a product if the owners have not used it themselves? Well they did just that, as Andrew is From Canada and Ksenija is originally from Latvia and even though they reside in Canada both wanted to honor their heritages by marrying in the one country located on both continents. Now they are spreading the word about this warm land of the north by dispelling the myths and promoting Iceland’s thousands of cascading waterfalls, towering volcanoes, modern Nordic sheik shops, restaurants and hotels. Welcome to Iceland.
Destination events are like events on your home soil… They take a lot of work! And that’s what Andrew and Ksenija learned when they planned their own wedding. The good news is that this is where they learned the trade and can now package all the elements for your event in Iceland. Andrew studied multimedia integration and has a background in national promotion and tradeshow events while Ksenija studied psychology, worked in the presentational material industry in Latvia and is an avid photographer. “We handle everything from tours to venues and flights to decorations. Want to get married on a glacier or a mountain? We have a helicopter company who can do that and anything else you can dream up, we love a challenge.”
Iceland borders the Arctic Circle yet the average temperature in January for the capital Reykjavik is -1 °C and is not always snow covered and in the summer temperatures can hit 20°C/25°C.
A long time hidden gem, Iceland has become a tourist hotspot in the last few years thanks in part to new affordable direct flights and a love affair with the days of the Vikings fuelled by many of the current films and TV shows, you even take a Game of Throne tour where you see some of the legendary landmarks from the series.
Getting married in an ice chapel under a glacier or along the fjords is the stuff of dreams. Dinning on local drinks and exquisite fish after a day of site seeing the amazing geysers will certainly make this an experience to remember. This is the beauty of Iceland, downtown village flair and 15 minutes away from some of the rawest untouched nature you will ever experience.
The “Ring Road” is the highway that circles the country and makes for one of the world’s greatest road trips! English is taught in all Icelandic schools from a young age so you can ask at any time for directions. Every view is breathtaking with hundreds of glacier fed waterfalls, volcanoes and craters, geysers, natural hot baths and black sand beaches and high green cliffs that meet the ocean. There are also many bus, horse riding, boat, helicopter, and hiking/bicycling tours plus car rental agencies that let you see this land at a pace that suits you.
The biggest draw for the winter months is the view of the northern lights. The proximity and warmer temperatures make it one of the most amazing places on earth to view this amazing phenomena and what a fabulous way to bring your wedding day to a close!
