An Industrial Industry Introduction
That title was CRYING OUT to be used, and I couldn’t refuse. I am not apologetic. I’m also not apologetic for bringing you news of a fabulous new supplier who’s just joined the ranks at And So To Wed: Hummingbird Occasions. Everyone say hello!
Swindon-based Hummingbird Occasions are a fabulous wedding and event planning business who specialise in creative styling elements that make your day completely unique. Captaining the ship is Vicki, who knows the ins and outs of the business like the back of her talented, crafty hands, as she spent more than 10 years in the hospitality and events industry. In doing these corporate parties and events, though, she yearned for more creativity and personality. Often coming away brainstorming how she’d have made them better, more fun, and with better cohesive styled themes. The result of that brainstorming was setting up Hummingbird Occasions, where all her experience, passion, and skills come together in a storm of beauty and super styling.
We’re so lucky to be living in a time of incredibly creative wedding themes now, where people are focusing on the fun party vibe as well as the all-important ceremony. This requires a special eye to assist with some of the elements that might be normally overlooked – and Vicki is the woman for the job.
Not only has she brought her incredible skills to the table, but she’s only gone and brought us a styled shoot too (which is where the ‘industrial’ bit comes in, if you were wondering). The brief was industrial elegance, and we think it’s fair to say that Vicki smashed it out of the park (or the barn, if you will). It’s the perfect showcasing of her skills, as she’s seamlessly shown how this year’s coolest trends can be incorporated into your big day in a number of ways. We’re seeing nods to copper, greenery, marble, grey – all of our 2017 favourites! We love what Vicki’s done with these trends to put her own Hummingbird Occasions stamp on them, and we’ve picked some highlights to show you exactly what she can do for you.
Back at the turn of the year, we noted that concrete was a fashion to watch out for this year, bridging two of 2017’s trends: industrial, and texture. Vicki’s shoot is the concrete jungle where dreams are made that Alicia Keys was singing about. We adore the concrete table numbers that Vicki had made, providing a really solid, earthy presence on the table to break up some of the softer elements of the design. Their untouched two-tone state lends beautifully to the industrial theme, which was secured in the first place by the incredible setting of Wellington Barn. A modern barn that still included lovable industrial elements like bare brick and shiplap walls, it’s a perfect example of the kind of open, blank spaces that are completely subject only to your imagination (and your fabulous planner and stylist!).
To lighten the room, Vicki used strands of hanging fairy lights—which we’re still massive fans of here. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – just make it look better than ever. Vicki has definitely done that! This then provided the perfect backdrop for the cake, which was set on top of a cable-drum-cum-cake-table. We loooove this amazing idea, and adore the subtle nod to the industrial trend, but with a more rustic spin.
And the cake. Ohhhhhhh, the cake. A four-tiered delight, the cake alternates between gorgeous marbled lilac fondant, and a crisp white fondant with laid in copper geometrics. Lilac is such a good cake choice – it’s not too overpowering, so as to keep in with the overall theme whilst also providing a lift. And we all know geometrics are the way forward—we love the topography of this cake, with the indents providing real texture to the cake.
Geometrics continued to the stationery, with the menu card being an elongated hexagon with a marbled background. We love this unusual shape, making for a super interesting tablescape—especially as it was laid on top of a gorgeous veined copper charger plate and amongst copper cutlery. It’s all in the details! This was all brought together by stunning copper chair bows, making every seat in the house fit for a sitting city king or queen. Having said that, the best seats in the house were clearly on the top table, which was decorated with an amazing copper wire caged Mr and Mrs table topper.
