Jessica and Tom - A Beautiful Norfolk Wedding

Jessica and Tom - A Beautiful Norfolk Wedding

We've got a lovely start to the week this week by sharing this gorgeous wedding captured by Grace Elizabeth. Jessica and Tom's DIY wedding is simply beautiful, with help from family and friends, those little personal and relaxed details add a boho, laid back vibe to their wedding day. Their couple shots are so cute and cool all at the same time.

We hear from Grace Elizabeth and the lovely newlyweds themselves to find out more. We love a good love story, grab your Monday morning cuppa and read on for some lovely, real wedding inspiration...

Jess and Tom’s bohemian wedding in Norfolk is absolutely up there with one of my very favourite weddings of the year, if possibly, ever! We are quite similar in age, which meant that right away we got along and had a lot in common, and their wedding was just beautiful! I always know that I am being hired to do a job when it comes to wedding photography, but these guys, their friends, and family, went over and above to make me feel included. I felt so welcomed and involved that I felt more like a guest, or friend, than a wedding photographer.

The day started off with me meeting Tom for his groom preparations with the guys, and that was a lot of fun. I documented them getting ready and then headed to the local park to do some formal portraits. They were absolute stars and super up for ideas – including the infamous ‘Beatles’ photo which Ceiran, one of the groomsmen, suggested!

I then headed to Jess for her bridal prep, which is always one of my favourite parts of a day. The atmosphere is electric at the girls’ house compared to the guys, who are always so chilled! Jess’ family warmly welcomed me and I was able, along with their fantastic videographer, to get some wonderful detail shots and of course natural moments as I floated around whilst they were finalising preparations. Their little dog Bailey was also so sweet, I couldn’t believe he was thirteen, so of course we took photos with him too!

Then came the ceremony at their local Kingdom Hall, which was so touching. From Jess’ proud father giving her away, to Tom’s pure emotion as he saw Jess for the first time – his soon to be wife. The gentleman conducting the ceremony made it so personal by referencing bible passages to the two of them, he knew them so very well, which was so touching. Everyone at the ceremony was so lovely, and we took some beautiful family shots.

Then we headed to their reception venue, where guests chatted over chilled drinks whilst Jess, Tom, the videographer and I explored the local area (beautiful farmland) for their couple photos. They were so wonderful, relaxed, and had a sense of calm between them that far exceeds their years. I absolutely adore their couple photos and am so grateful that they were up for any of my ideas!

Following this, was a wonderful Thai meal, belly-laughing whilst tear-inducing speeches (featuring home video from Jess’ childhood) and a wonderful first dance. Outside there was a super cool crepe and waffle van, which everyone enjoyed.

Altogether the day was just fabulous, and I am so grateful to have been their wedding photographer.

How did you meet?

We first met when we were 11/12 and then lost touch until a few years ago when we met up for a meal with some mutual friends. We happened to sit opposite to each other and we got talking and it started from there!

What’s your engagement story?

We had spoken about getting married and even looked at rings but it was one of those things you wouldn’t believe until it happened. And when it did happen I still didn’t expect it whatsoever! We were on a walk down near the river, walking back from having dinner out when Tom got on one knee! It was so cute, romantic and natural. He knows I hate the limelight and so it was even better that nobody was around.

How long were you engaged before you got married?

2 years

How did you choose your venue?

We knew we wanted to get married in our local Kingdom Hall, our place of worship.

For the reception venue we wanted something open, bright, big and summery. We found the perfect village hall in a village called Binham, surrounded by fields and farms. It was perfect. It was a lovely bright blank space which meant we could do our own thing.

What Was The Inspiration Behind Your Styling?

Lots of research on Pinterest but most of it just came from ideas I had in my head all mixed together! We liked the quite natural, not too over the top style. Hence why we used lots of foliage and natural summery colours.

Tell us more about the dress?

My dress was from Monsoon and as soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one! It had a lace top with mid length sleeves and a beautiful bow tied at the back. It was so intricate and I loved all the beading detail on it.

What was the most important thing to you for your wedding day?

Having my friends and family there was definitely the most important part of our wedding day. The guests definitely make the wedding and I knew our special guests would make for a truly special day!

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

The vows were really special. After that we could say we are officially married!

What advice would you give to other couples planning their Indie Wedding Day?

Enjoy it. If you like getting creative, do it yourself! Or if you’ve got super clever family and they are willing to help, let them!
