Lucy and Arron's story
The proposal...It happened on our ninth anniversary, 23rd November 2014 in Paris. I know that you are probably thinking "she must have known...Paris, the city of romance and on their anniversary" but honestly I didn’t have a clue. We love Paris and have been there five times now so it was never in my head that it was "city of romance". The trip wasn’t a surprise, I had actually organised it for us. The proposal took place at night, outside the Sacre Coeur. We had had a (terrible) meal, in Montmartre (our favourite part of Paris and where we were staying). We walked to the Sacre Coeur and we were overlooking the twinkly Paris skyline. I stood looking at the stunning view and Arron said "stay there, I will take a photo of you looking out...turn around, I have finished". There he was...down on one knee with an opened red box containing the ring. "Lucy, will you marry me?". I started crying immediately. I then went hysterical. I couldn’t get my words out properly, I sometimes wonder if I actually did ever say yes! One of the first things I said was "you have asked my dad haven't you?" and of course he had!
We had a fantastic engagement party at the end of January, we decorated it ourselves with jam jars, filled with candles and gypsophila, that we had decorated with twine, ribbon, hessian and lace. We used paper mâché letters, a donated chalkboard, twinkly lights, DIY balloon weights and had a DIY photo backdrop with photo props and a fabulous photographer, Tom Williamson, who captured the evening. Our engagement party was a fantastic night for us and all of our guests and to think that was just the warm up for our wedding!
