5 Tips For Planning The Perfect Vintage Hen Party

5 Tips For Planning The Perfect Vintage Hen Party

Vintage hen parties are perfect for quirky and stylish brides-to-be that love good old-fashioned fun. Here are 5 easy steps you need to take to create your perfect vintage hen party. Use this guide to plan your activities, inspire your makeover and create a truly memorable hen party.

1. Choose Your Era

Vintage is an all-encompassing term that covers everything from the 1920s to the 1960s. The first step to planning a vintage hen party is choosing an era that you think the bride will love. Does she love the roaring 1920s, the Rock n Roll vibes of the 1950s or are the swinging sixties more her style?

Once you have chosen an era, consider the best way of celebrating that era at her hen party. For example, you could take an era specific dance class. That could be the Charleston for the 1920s, Swing for 1940s or the Jitterbug for the 1950s.

2. Plan A Vintage Makeover

Make your vintage makeover transformation a key part of the hen party. Dress in a gorgeous gown from the era of your choice. If you are struggling to source a retro outfit, then visit your local charity or vintage market. Take time to consider the era of your choice and what fashions and accessories typify that time.

If you love the elegance of the 1920s then accessorise your outfit with long strings of white pearls and a feather boa. The ONLY acceptable time to wear a feather boa on a hen party ; )

If the glamour of the 1930s is your thing then throw on an elegant floor length silk gown and accessorise with a (fake) fur stole.

For the 1940s, think victory rolls, tea dresses and red lips. The 1950s call for full skirts, cinched waists and a hefty dose of polka dots. Of course for the 1960s, all you have to do is channel the iconic Twiggy with a bold patterned mini dress.

A fantastic idea is to visit a local vintage beauty parlour to have your hair and make up perfected. If this is out of budget then get on YouTube and follow a hair and make up tutorial. You will be rocking a perfect vintage look in no time. Once you have perfected your look, remember to take lots of photographs. Alternatively, have a professional photographer take some snaps.

3. Decorate Your Space

Your hen party venue should look as perfectly styled and era appropriate as your outfits. Again raid your local charity shop and markets to find the perfect accessories. Think vintage leather suitcases, delicate floral china sets and pretty bunting.

Like it when life is easy? Then take a peek at our beautiful vintage hen party theme. It features everything you need to decorate a vintage floral afternoon tea party. We think a good natter with your best girl friends whilst enjoying fluffy scones with pots of tea and flutes of bubbly is the perfect hen party activity.

4. Accessorise

Don’t forget that you are there to celebrate the bride to be. Make sure that she feels extra special by choosing some hen party accessories that mark her out as the bride. We aren’t thinking L plates and pink cowboy hats. Instead compliment her retro makeover with stylish hen do accessories.

Our vintage hen party theme features badges, rosettes and sashes. We have beautiful handmade sashes in vintage floral and rockabilly patterns that will compliment any vintage look. Our badges and rosettes can be worn by the rest of the hens, from flower girl to mother of the bride, making sure that everyone knows that you are ‘Team Bride’ all the way.

5. Remember The Details

If you want to host a memorable hen party then attention to detail is important. The handmade details and personalised touches are the parts of the hen party that the bride will notice and appreciate. We have some suggestions for pretty and fun details that can be integrated into any classy vintage hen party.

First of all put together a playlist, focus on the music of your vintage era but make sure you also include a few of the bride’s favourite songs. Don’t forget to think about hen party games, they are a great way to break the ice between groups of friends that don’t know each other. You can download our free hen party game kit at home, which should help you find the perfect game for your hen do.

Finally, we love hen party memory walls. Simply bring photographs and funny stories of the bride and display them at the hen party. The bride will love being reminded of all the fun times she has had with her friends. To give the memory wall a vintage twist, print the photographs in sepia or black and white.
